Growing Houseplants
Growing plants in your house beholds many benefits and luxuries. It brings life into our lives by entering nature into our residential house. Another healthy contribute is that every plant rely on gaseous exchange to facilitate photosynthesis, it naturally emits oxygen, in fact cleans the air from our toxin. I don’t know which one of those traits brings more joy into my life but if you have a plant in your house I am sure you will agree that the quality of life upgrades.
Another sublime feature we earn from the photosynthetic process is the moist we receive in the air. Some plants as African violet and Kalanchoe are recommended for the golden age for common eye dryness issues.
The harmony, inspiration and balance one houseplant brings up into my life making in my opinion the highest value it holds. Green plants like Fiddle leaf fig or English Ivy making a calm, clean and quiet addition while colorful bright Anthurium, Calathea or Bromeliad in the house adds an exotic lively and lushy atmosphere.
One more aspect of it is the profit we get from the responsibility we experience by taking care of it. Some plants need daily watering while some could settle for once a month. Some will need a natural light nearby while some couldn’t be bothered by light conditioning, they will grow happy either way. In any case from 8 years to 88 years old it is always an obligation to have, yet I highly recommended taking in consideration your way of being in additional to the atmosphere you like to promote. Choose a plant that likes to live like you- if you more of a water for example, Ferns or a Chinese evergreen is a good choice, while If you are out of the house a lot any Succulent will not feel neglected. Considering the light condition in your house is necessary for choosing the plant that fits for you.
Do you have a lot or just a little light in your house?
How can someone determine?
Try to notice if you can walk around, see good enough to do an act as washing your plates without turning on the light for 6-8 hours during the day- You won in a much lightened house. Unfortunately, the most of us have more dark conditions. Here are some of durable plants for the darkest home (That surely will enjoy a lightened house as well);
‘Mother-in-law’s tongue’- Sansevieria
This ubiquitous succulent houseplant originates in Africa, India and Indonesia. NASA research shows that the main challenge in creating a sustainable space station is the supply of clean air. After years of research and billion dollar technology programmers, the most effective and efficient solution was inside the research office. It was found as the best for scrubbing away over 107 pollutants including benzene, a known mutagen and carcinogen found in petrol, rubber, paints and ink. Among much other Formaldehyde, which cause asthma and exists in paper towels,waxed paper, particle boards, cigarette smoke and cleaning supplies. The Sansevieria is the best provider of clean air and precias oxygen, and it has been suggested that one mature plant with a minimum of five leaves can cleanse a room off 100 cubic meters. This plant in danger for rotten with too much watering, so be carefull not to water more than once a week and make sure that the siil gets dry betwin watering, but surely survives dark houses and offices and beind considered as a cleaning agent for offices with ‘Sick Building Syndrome’.
‘ZZ Plant’- Zamioculcas Zamiifolia
Shiny and sculptural, ZZ has a really strong dramatic look and is the queen of the indestructible plants. Zamioculcas has been around for centuries, originating in drought-prone Africa. It all changed in 1996 when Dutch nurseries located in South Africa saw the plant’s propagating potential and started distributing it around the world. Today it is the most popular hipster houseplant and the quiet hero of nearly any Instagram-worthy houseplant collection. ZZ plant, with its wide, attractive, dark green, waxy, smooth leaves reflect sunlight and brighten rooms. Moreover boasts many favorable traits. ZZ plant put up with neglect, is drought tolerant and accepts low-light conditions without throwing a fit. In air purification topic nothing could beat the Sansevieria, though ZZ plant also is an air purifier and in a NASA study, researchers found it is specifically adept at removing copious amounts of toxins such as xylene, toluene, and benzene from the air. Situate your ZZ in low to bright indirect light, and water when fully dry. Typically you can even forget a watering… or three… and it will still thrive. Only be cautious with over-watering. ZZ is also very resistant to diseases and insects. If your plant’s branches intrude into your space and get in the way, simply prune them away. With his unique beautiful foliage and adaptive characteristic never forget that all parts of the plant are toxic so be careful around children and pets.
‘Golden Pothos’- Epipremnum aureum
This trailing vine has pointed, heart-shaped green leaves, sometimes variegated with white, yellow, or pale green. It is native to Mo’orea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia. One of the common names for it is ‘Devils Ivy’ because it will continue to grow and can become somewhat invasive even in conditions that would ordinarily be considered very poor for houseplants. It will thrive on fluorescent lighting, and will prosper outdoor in a shady patio or a shady garden. Outside the house as well it is unstoppable and has also become naturalized in tropical and sub-tropical forests worldwide, including northern Australia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Pacific Islands and the West Indies, where it has caused severe ecological damage in some cases. The plant is also efficient at removing indoor pollutants such as formaldehyde, trichloroethene, toluene, xylene, and benzene. A study found that this effect declined as the molecular weight of the polluting substance increased. I believe it is the king of growth speed, and admirably tries every path to progress including growing air roots.
Many useful beautiful houseplants exist and every plant has its magic though to choose your plants considerate the conditions that you have to offer and the benefits you want. I believe that with Mother in law tongue, ZZ and Pothos you’re good to go on starting to improve your life quality and are safe experience to a beginner and to an expert. Good luck!
